Get Compassion

When it comes to the world around us, it really is cool to be kind!

Take a minute to look around you. You’re sitting at a computer, possibly at school or at home. If you’re thirsty, you can have an ice cold drink. If you’re hungry, you can go to the kitchen or a shop. These are things you are lucky enough to be able to take for granted. Around the world, thousands of children die from lack of clean water. More that 2.6 billion people (that’s 40% of the world’s population) do not have a bathroom or washing facilities. Many children around the world do not get the opportunity to go to school, or even learn to read or write.

Compassion starts with being kind to others and to our environment, and being grateful and appreciating what we have. We can do this by looking after our environment and keeping it clean. Be enthusiastic about it! Put 100% into being compassionate, non-aggressive and taking care of the world and each other.

Ouch thats gotta hurt!!!

We all have our own problems and none of us is perfect, and you can begin being compassionate by just accepting people as they are. Forgive another's mistake and do not look for a motive behind it. Maybe they were just stressed or upset when they were being unkind.  And it is not all about other people, it also includes

YOU:

  • Accept yourself the way you are
  • Forgive your own mistakes
  • Stop obsessing over the past
  • Remember to breathe deeply
  • Put in strategies not to lose your temper - take a deep breath, go for a walk, count to ten, tell someone your problem, sleep on it
  • Try smiling more, even if you don’t feel like it - fake it till you make it! Almost as if by magic, it can pull us away from sad, negative thoughts, and soon, the smile will become real
  • Look around and appreciate what you have
  • Hug another person
  • Laugh at yourself and with others (but not at the expense of others).
  • Watch a funny movie, visit a joke shop, tell a joke
  • Make a list of all your positive qualities
  • Appreciate yourself! Begin a compliments diary and write down all the compliments you receive
  • Write down how you helped someone and showed compassion, or when you didn't and how you could have
  • Appreciate yourself and all those in your life who help you - teacher, caretaker, cleaner, nurse, shop assistant, prefect!

Remember, you are alive and you are amazing!
